DIY: Makeup Setting Spray

DIY: Makeup Setting Spray

Hello Lovelies! Here's a quick post on how to make your own makeup setting spray! It's actually ridiculously easy only needs two ingredients: Glycerine and filtered water. It works because the glycerine helps bind your makeup to your skin which'll help it last longer.

What you're going to need:

Filtered water (either from a bottle or water filter)

A spray bottle

Glycerine (you should be able to find this in any pharmacy)

And for a decorative touch: Some labels

So take your spray bottle and add the glycerine. The rule of thumb here is to make fill it up a tenth of the way with glycerine, but you can adjust it depending on what you think you'll need.

Then fill it up the rest of the way with water, screw on the cap and shake until everything is nicely mixed together!

And that's literally it, you've got your very own makeup setting spray. It'll last you about two weeks, but you can always make more with whatever glycerine you have left over.

Now, to use it hold the bottle at about an arm's length away from your face and spray it lightly. Try not to hold it too close to your face or using too much because otherwise you'll just end up wetting your makeup rather than setting it.

Make Your Own Erasers: Part 2

Hello Lovelies! Here's a second tutorial about making your own erasers, but this time we'll be making them look like lipstick and lip balms! If you're anything like me and have a horrible tendency to lose or misplace your erasers, then these are a great idea for you! Seriously, with an eraser this cute you'll make sure to never lose it!

What you're going to need:

Eraser putty,

An empty lipstick container

An empty EOS Lipbalm

An Xacto Knife

And some super glue

For the lipstick you'll need a large section of the red putty and two small pieces of the pink and black to achieve the colour I made. However, if you want to make your own colour, go for it!

Now mix them all together and roll the mixture into a sausage shape.

It's time to make sure that the eraser will fit into the lipstick tube so try placing it in place and wind the lipstick down.

If there's any excess just use the knife and carefully cut it off.

What I did next to make it look even more like a lipstick was to cut the erase at an angle to create a point.

Then, once the eraser is cooled, put a tiny bit of glue into the bottom of the lipstick case and place the eraser inside.

It should end up looking something like this:

I've seen a couple of these EOS erasers, but I thought I'd try and put a little twist on it. So take three colours of your choice, or however many colours you want.

Mix them all together into a ball until you get a pattern like in the picture bellow. If you want to get a similar effect as mine, be careful not to mix the putty too much because the colours will start to blend together. 

Next, place the putty in the lid of the EOS container

Then, take the grid, which pops out of the base of the container quite easily. Just look for the thin line and pry it out using something like a thin nail file. I used my xacto knife, but that was a tad on the dangerous side so I wouldn't recommend that.

Press the grid into the putty, don't twist it though, it could ruin the pattern.

Remove the grid and the putty from the lid of the container and take the putty off the grid and boil or bake it.

Now take the super glue and glue the grid so that when you use the eraser it doesn't fall out or move about.

Then pop the grid back into the base. It's really simple to do, trust me! And there you have it, a pretty cool eraser! 

And there you have it, your own lipstick or EOS lipbalm eraser! Aren't they pretty?

Make Your Own Hair Bows

Make Your Own Hair Bows

Hello Lovelies! I'm back with another tutorial, this one is very simple and super cute: DIY hair bows! This is so much fun and an inexpensive way to make some cute hair accessories, you can make them whatever colour you like and mix and match patterns if you wanted!

What you're going to need:

Your choice of fabric, I'm just using some scrap fabric I had,

Scissors,

Glue Gun

And Crocodile hair clips

First step is to cut out a square and a rectangle from your desired fabric. I didn't measure exactly, I just kind of eyeballed it, but obviously make the sizes bigger or smaller depending on what size you want you bow to be.

Next, take the square piece of fabric and fold over the edges to create a rectangle. Make sure the edges of the fabric are overlapping.

Now take the hot glue gun and CAREFULLY glue the overlapping edges together.

Once you've done this the next step is to fold in the corners to create a single point and glue them down. It doesn't have to be perfect so don't worry about it if it's not exact!

Fold the two edges into the centre to create a small rectangle, but don't glue anything just yet!

The next thing to do rather than glueing is to turn over the rectangle and then pinch it in the middle, as demonstrated in the picture bellow:

Now it's time to adjust and play about to get the look you want and once you're satisfied add a dollop of glue to the back and let it cool. Remember the thin rectangle of fabric we cut earlier? It's time to use it. All you need to do is wrap it around the centre of the bow like so:

And then glue it so that it doesn't come undone.

The final step is to take your crocodile hair clip, add some glue to it and then press it to the back of your bow.

Make sure to press firmly.

And there you have it! You're very own bow! Isn't it cute? And it didn't even take that long to make!

LUSH Inspired Jelly Soap

LUSH Inspired Jelly Soap

Hello Lovelies! Here's another tutorial for you: how to make Lush inspired jellies. It actually really simple and fun to do! (Also, pretty inexpensive!) 

What you're going to need is:

Your choice of Shampoo and / or shower gel

Glycerine

Unflavoured gelatine

An ice cube tray

Rubbing Alcohol

A couple of mixing containers (make sure they're heat proof)

Boiling water

And a pinch of salt

First thing to do to take about one and a half packets of the unflavoured gelatine and place them in your mixing bowl. Then add 200ml - 300ml of boiling water and mix it all together until the gelatine is completely dissolved.

             

 

Now, split the mixture in half and put one half of the mixture aside.

Take half your solution and pour a cup of shampoo (I'm using Herbal Essence) and mix it in completely. Be sure to be gentle, if you stir too roughly or vigorously you'll end up with a very frothy mixture. If you want to make the colour stronger then you can always add in a couple of drops of food colouring.

Then, for a moisturising effect, pour in a few drops of glycerine and gently stir it in.

Once you're finished doing that, pour the mixture into your ice cube tray.

          

Repeat these steps with the other half of your mixture, except instead of shampoo, use the shower gel.

Now take your rubbing alcohol and spray the surface of the soap in the moulds. This will get rid of the bubbles that are floating on the surface.

If you've got excess mixture, don't worry, just do what I did. I poured mine into two small glasses I had in the kitchen. Once you're finished, just pop everything into the fridge for around four hours. I know it seems like a long time to wait, and if you're anything like me, you'll be at the fridge checking the progress every ten minutes, but trust me, it's so worth the wait!

When everything has set, take your soaps out of the fridge and gently prying the soaps out of the moulds. I did this by gently pulling the soap away from the sides before slowly easing them out of the moulds.

To get the soap out of the glasses I just used a toothpick and used it to separate the soap from the side of the glass. Once I'd done that it just popped right out.

And there you have it! Your own jelly soap! It was so much simpler and easier than I thought it would be and I really had fun making them. They smell great and are super fun to use! Just keep in mind that it's best to keep these in the fridge as they do tend to melt a little at room temperature.
